Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that navigating the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme), psychology and mental health services can raise many questions. To help you better understand how our services can support your journey, we've answered some of the most commonly asked questions.

What is NDIS psychology?

NDIS psychology provides professional support for NDIS Participants (with physical disability and intellectual disability) who want to improve their mental health, manage emotional or behavioural challenges, and achieve their personal goals.

Our NDIS-registered psychologists offer therapeutic support and work with you to build practical skills, develop coping strategies, and overcome mental health barriers that may be affecting your daily life, independence, and participation in social and community activities.

How does psychology fit into an NDIS plan?

Psychology services are typically funded under the Improved Daily Living category of your NDIS plan.

This funding is designed to support capacity-building therapies, helping participants develop skills and strategies that improve functional independence, emotional regulation, social skills, and overall mental health.

How do I access NDIS funding for psychology services?

If your NDIS plan already includes psychology supports under Improved Daily Living, you can use this funding for sessions with our psychologists.

If you’re new to the NDIS, we can guide you through the application process and help ensure your plan includes psychology where appropriate.

For existing plans without psychology, we can provide reports or supporting documentation to assist with a plan reassessment so that you can access the funding you need.

Do I need a referral to see an NDIS psychologist?

No GP referral is required to access our NDIS psychology services. You can contact us directly to book a session if your NDIS plan includes psychology supports. If you wish to combine NDIS and Medicare funding, a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP will be required.

What are the benefits of psychology?

Psychology can help with a range of conditions, including:

  • Manage anxiety, depression, stress, or trauma
  • Improve emotional regulation and coping strategies
  • Develop social and communication skills
  • Build resilience, confidence, and independence
  • Overcome barriers that may prevent you from achieving your goals
  • Gain support for grief, loss, or major life changes

By receiving targeted, evidence-based support, participants can improve their quality of life, functional independence, and engagement in daily activities.

What happens during a session?

Each session is tailored to your individual needs and goals. Sessions can be delivered in your home, in community locations, or via secure telehealth, making therapy accessible and flexible to suit your lifestyle.

Depending on your requirements, a session may include:

  • Comprehensive assessments to understand cognitive, emotional, and behavioural challenges
  • Evidence-based therapeutic interventions like CBT, ACT, EMDR, or trauma-informed care
  • Skill-building exercises for emotional regulation, social skills, or problem-solving
  • Support for coping with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or other challenges

How often will I need psychology sessions?

Session frequency depends on your needs, goals, and the funding available in your NDIS plan. Some participants benefit from weekly psychology (or counselling) sessions, while others may attend fortnightly or monthly. Your psychologist will discuss the best schedule during your initial assessment and review it as your progress and needs change.

Do you offer psychology for non-NDIS clients?

Yes! We also provide private psychology services for individuals who do not have NDIS funding. This includes one-on-one therapy, assessments, and tailored interventions for a wide range of cognitive, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Contact us to discuss your needs and available options outside the NDIS.
