Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question or want to know more? We’ve answered some of the most common questions about NDIS services, allied health support in New South Wales, and how to get started, so you can feel confident about your next steps.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that provides funding and support for people with a permanent and significant disability. It helps participants access allied health therapies and services, like occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, and psychology, to live more independently and achieve their goals.

Who is eligible for NDIS allied health in NSW?

To access NDIS-funded allied health services, you generally need to:

  • Be aged 7–65 (early intervention may be available for children under 7)
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
  • Have a permanent and significant disability that affects everyday activities
  • Have your disability impact at least one area of daily life (e.g., communication, mobility, self-care, social interaction)

If you’re unsure, contact our team for guidance.

How do I access allied health through my NDIS plan?

  1.  Check your NDIS plan for “Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living” funding.
  2. Choose your provider. Health Journey Partner is a registered NDIS provider for all plan management types.
  3. Get in touch directly, ask your support coordinator to refer you, or submit a referral online.
  4. We match you with the right therapist based on your goals, needs, and location.
  5. Start your sessions in-home or via secure telehealth with a personalised plan.

What plan management options do you support?

We work with all NDIS plan types:

  • Agency-Managed: NDIA pays providers directly. We invoice on your behalf.
  • Plan-Managed: Your plan manager handles funding; we work closely for smooth billing.
  • Self-Managed: You manage invoices; we provide clear documentation for claims.

Where do you provide NDIS services in NSW?

We provide in-home visits across Greater Sydney, including:

  • Parramatta & Greater Western Sydney
  • Blacktown & Surrounds
  • The Hills District
  • Macquarie Park &  Ryde
  • Upper North Shore
  • Inner West
  • South Western Sydney

Telehealth is available for participants anywhere in NSW.

What allied health services do you provide under the NDIS?

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Speech Pathology
  • Psychology
  • Counselling
  • Functional Capacity Assessments

All services are available in-home across Sydney or via telehealth throughout NSW.

Do I need a referral to access your services?

No GP referral is needed. As long as you have Capacity Building funding under “Improved Daily Living,” you can contact us directly or ask your support coordinator, plan manager, or family member to submit a referral online.

What is a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) and who can conduct it?

An FCA evaluates your physical, cognitive, and daily living abilities. It helps with NDIS access, plan reviews, and funding decisions. At Health Journey Partner, FCAs may be conducted by an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or psychologist, depending on your needs. Sometimes multiple disciplines are involved for a full-picture assessment. Learn more about Functional Capacity Assessments.

How quickly can I start receiving services?

We respond to enquiries within one hour during business hours and typically schedule initial appointments within 1–2 weeks. Urgent cases, like upcoming plan reviews, are prioritised.

Can you work with my Support Coordinator, family, or support workers?

Yes. With your consent, we collaborate closely with your support team to ensure your therapy aligns with your NDIS goals and daily needs.

Are there gap fees for NDIS-funded services?

No. We follow NDIA pricing arrangements. You will not be charged above NDIS price limits, there are no hidden costs.

Do you offer private healthcare?

Yes. We provide private allied health services in addition to NDIS-funded care. Contact us to discuss services and payment options.

Are your services available in other languages?

Yes. Some therapists speak additional languages, and professional interpreters can be arranged as needed.
